The following section will cover additional information for posting bail and jail release in Madison County.

How Do I Post Bail & Get Someone Released From Jail in Madison County?

The Madison County jail is open to attend to citizens who wish to post cash bail for someone. There are several means to post bail in Madison County.

First, the City of Huntsville magistrate is open 24 hours every day of the week for the posting of misdemeanor bonds. Alternatively, Inquirers may call (256)427-7817.

The City of Madison magistrate accepts misdemeanor bonds between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday (except on holidays). For additional information, call (256)772-5617.

Felony and misdemeanor bonds may be posted with the Madison County District Court Clerk’s Office from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (except on holidays). Interested persons can visit the 2nd floor of the Courthouse room 200 at 100 North Side Square Huntsville, AL 35801, or call (256)532-3373.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office also allows online payment of bonds.

Interested persons are free to opt for the service of a bail bondsman. Bail bondsmen typically demand 10% of the total bail as a fee. The remaining 90% is in the form of collateral.

A collateral may be in the form of properties, stocks, and other valuable items.

A friend or family may serve as an indemnitor who will consign a contract with a bondsman. After completing all the paperwork, the defendant will be out on bail from jail.

The contract ensures that the indemnitor bears the financial responsibility if the defendant misses all court dates. The Indemnitor will also be required to turn in the defendant to the bail bondsman to be surrendered or have the case reset.

If the defendant goes on the run, the indemnitor will pay the entire bond amount to the bail bondsman. The bail bondsman then pays the bonds to the courts.

In cases where the collateral is collected, a bail bondsman can only return the collateral once the case is over and the court states that the bonding company is now free from the case.

However, the percentage demanded as a fee by the bondsman is nonrefundable. The Alabama Professional Bail Bonding Board hosts a list of bondsmen agents in Madison County where citizens can make a choice.12
